NPOOTS Donates Over ₦10m Prosthetic Limbs to 10 Amputees in Rivers State

The Nigerian Prosthetics, Orthotics, and Orthopaedic Technology Society (NPOOTS) has donated prosthetic limbs worth more than ₦10 million to ten amputees during its 4th Annual Scientific Conference in Port Harcourt.

NPOOTS president, Nze Ugorji, said the donation aims to boost amputees’ independence and called on the federal government to integrate prosthetic and orthotic services into the NHIA, noting that a single limb costs between ₦800,000 and ₦1.6 million.

UNIDO’s project coordinator, Pakouyowou Timothee, announced that Japan will provide 200 free prosthetic devices for landmine victims in 2026, alongside training for 20 professionals in 3D prosthetic technology and capacity-building for 400 students.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude, with many noting the life-changing impact of receiving a prosthetic limb they could not afford.
